    About the Sailing Committee

The sailing committee is responsible for encouraging and organising all of the sailing which takes place at the club.

Ribble Cruising club has three primary venues for sailing. Cruiser sailing, both on the river, and further a field is based at the Dock which is located at the boundary of Lytham to the east of the clubhouse and has direct (tidal) access to the River Ribble.

Dinghy sailing is based at the main clubhouse at Central Beach, Lytham and during the summer months dinghy sailing is available for club members at Fairhaven Lake.

The sailing committee establishes a sailing programme for the year (on suitable tidal weekends, Evenings, Bank Holidays) including two weekend Regattas per year and a series of other handicap race events and cruising in company events during the season. The programme is incorporated in the club handbook and published on the website.

The Committee arranges the Race Management for the events including the Race Officer and outlines the start times, courses and number of races. It arranges the required Safety cover and maintains the safety boats. At significant racing events the committee provides Notices of Race and Sailing Instructions in line with RYA requirements.

From time to time the committee will review the cruiser handicaps to ensure that there is competitive racing between the differing classes of cruiser. The Committee is actively pursuing the Provision of Sail training – Introductory and advanced – from Fairhaven Lake and at the main club.

Dinghies are stored at the main club in sheltered dinghy tanks, there is a charge, per boat, for annual storage. The dinghy section operates a self help policy and it is expected that dinghy owners will attend various work parties throughout the year. There is also limited storage for dinghies at the shed at Fairhaven Lake where members may store boats (for a small charge) which they use for sail training at the Lake. The committee maintains a number of sailing dinghies for use by members at the Lake and on the river.
